Privacy notice

What this page is

This is the privacy notice of the website Laurel & Hardy World at laurelandhardyworld.com. It is written for visitors in the European Union and the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.

For the EU and the EEA this notice is given under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For the United Kingdom it is given under the UK GDPR. For Switzerland it is given under the Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). No separate United Kingdom representative is named on this site.

Who runs the site

The controller is aberle-media GmbH, Bäckerstr. 17, 67657 Kaiserslautern, Germany, the same operator named in the imprint. Email: legal@aberle-media.com. Phone: +49 631 316 0971. Managing director: Peter Aberle. Register court: Amtsgericht Kaiserslautern. VAT ID: DE254185445.

Encyclopedia

The site is an encyclopedia of Laurel and Hardy films and of the people who worked on them. The people index uses short Wikipedia sentences under CC BY-SA 4.0 and links to the article. Lord Heath reviews and biographies are not copied there. Still images on film pages are credited to The Movie Database (TMDB).

Opening a film or person page shows that catalogue. It does not require an account. If you search names on the people index or use the site search, the word you type is sent to the encyclopedia service on this site so the list can be filtered. The word is in the address as the parameter q. Reading the encyclopedia does not build a profile of you. The search word can sit in the connection log next to the IP address.

Which pages set cookies or store data

Every request gives the server the IP address, the date and time, the page address, and the browser identification. That is how the page is delivered. The same details can remain in the host's connection log.

Pages from the site interface can set a cookie named NEXT_LOCALE so the chosen language stays. Those pages show a banner, "We use cookies". You can allow only necessary cookies or accept all. The choice is kept in a cookie and in local storage under the name lh_consent. An anonymous identifier can be kept in local storage under lh_anonymous_id. The same choice is sent to this site's consent service at the path /privacy/consents. The banner describes necessary cookies as required to run the site, and the marketing category as covering embedded video trailers (YouTube or Vimeo) and personalised content. If the browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, the consent code treats analytics, marketing, and personalisation as refused.

The front controller adds a Matomo script to HTML pages that it passes through from the interface. That includes the home page, film pages, person pages, the shop, the sign-in page, and the interface legal pages. The script sends the page view to https://analytics.imh-group.us/ (site id 22) in the United States, with the page address and technical browser data. It does not turn Matomo's cookies off. The people index at /{language}/people, the search page at /{language}/search, and this notice do not add that script.

The sign-in page asks for an email address and a password, offers continuation with Google, and offers account creation. Those details are used to sign you in. Google sign-in runs at Google.

The shop page lists comedy DVDs and a price. The buy links leave this site and open the shop at aberlemedia.com. The disc order is handled there. The page text describes shipping from Germany via IMH. The site publishes ads.txt and names a Google AdSense account in the page head. The home page and a film page do not, by that alone, load an AdSense advertising script.

Embedded BrightFlixx player

On film pages linked to a BrightFlixx title, the page shows an Ansehen or Watch control. If a watch pass is current, the page embeds a player in an iframe from www.brightflixx.com. BrightFlixx then receives the IP address and can set its own cookies under its own rules. Without a pass, the iframe is not embedded; the page shows the pass offer instead.

Stripe

Those film pages have a paywall for a monthly pass and a yearly pass. The choice is sent to /{language}/watch-checkout and continues to Stripe Checkout at checkout.stripe.com. Stripe takes the card payment. This site does not store the full card number. After payment it keeps the Stripe customer id and subscription id on the server so it can tell whether the pass is still active, and it sets an HttpOnly cookie named lh_watch with a signed expiry and the customer id. The price is shown on the button on the film page.

Your rights

You can ask for access to the personal data processed here, for correction, for erasure, for restriction of processing, and for a copy you can take with you. You can object to processing that the site bases on its legitimate interests, including the Matomo measurement on the main pages. You can withdraw a cookie choice for the future with Cookie settings in the footer.

United States, Canada, and Brazil

This section is a notice from this website for visitors in the United States, Canada, and Brazil. It is not a legal opinion and not advice from a law firm. It describes the same encyclopedia, playback, and paywall processing as the rest of this page.

United States (CCPA/CPRA)

If you live in a US state that applies the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), the following categories, sale and share statement, opt-out, and non-discrimination notice apply to this site.

Categories of personal information this encyclopedia may process:

Identifiers, such as the IP address used to request a page and, if you use an account or the paywall, the identifiers needed for that account or payment. The encyclopedia does not store full card numbers. The payment provider takes the card data.

Internet or other electronic network activity, such as the address you request, the date and time, browser details, and, when you start playback, the film needed to deliver the stream.

Commercial information, only if you use the paywall: the records needed for the paid offer and for retention required by tax or accounting rules. If you do not pay, this category does not cover a purchase.

Sale and share: this site does not sell personal information for money. It does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. A sale or share under the CCPA/CPRA is not part of how this encyclopedia operates. The operator does not pass personal information to further recipients for its own advertising.

Opt-out of sale or sharing, if applicable: because the site does not sell or share personal information in that sense, an opt-out is not currently applied to an ongoing sale or share. If a sale or share becomes applicable, this page will offer the opt-out. You may already send a message with the subject "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" to the contact listed on this page. The operator will confirm the position and honor an opt-out if a sale or share is applicable.

Non-discrimination: the operator will not deny you the encyclopedia, charge a different price, or reduce the quality of the service because you exercise a right described here. That includes a request for access, a request for correction, and an opt-out of sale or sharing where that opt-out is applicable.

Canada (PIPEDA)

Where the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies to your request, you may ask the operator for access to the personal information held about you. You may ask for a correction if that information is inaccurate or incomplete. Use the contact listed on this page and describe the access or correction you want. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Brazil (LGPD)

Where the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) applies, the operator relies on these legal bases for the processing described on this page:

Performance of a contract (LGPD art. 7, V) for playback you start and for a paywall payment you request.

Legitimate interest (LGPD art. 7, IX) for running the public film encyclopedia and for security and abuse prevention.

Compliance with a legal obligation (LGPD art. 7, II) where tax or commercial law requires payment and invoice records to be kept.

You may ask for access and correction through the contact on this page. You may also lodge a complaint with the Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados (ANPD), the Brazilian national data protection authority.
