Der Film ist original als Stummfilm, wie auch nachträglich vertont auf der DVD zu sehen. Das schöne an den alten Filmen, ist die überdeutliche Darstellung der Emotionen und Geschehnisse. Und gerade bei “Jekyll und Hyde” braucht es auch keine großen Effekte. Da reicht eine super gelungene Maske und eine Hand, um die Verwandlung in das Böse eindrucksvoll darzustellen. Es gibt so viele Verfilmungen, aber keine hat diesen einfachen, puristischen Charme und hinterlässt doch so eine beklemmende Stimmung. Trotzdem muss man diese alten Filme mögen. Eine andere interessante Variante wäre “Mary Reilly” mit John Malkovich und Julia Roberts von 1996.
Ist halt alt. Anfang 1900. Da war die Filmqualität natürlich lange nicht so gut wie heute. Aber ich wollte keinen Horrorfilm in heutiger Art. Eher etwas schonender. Aber das Ende ist immer noch erschreckend genug. Darum habe ich diesen Film nicht verschenkt, sondern selbst behalten.
Kein 3D oder Highcolor aber ein Film den man gesehen haben sollte, ob nun als Originalstummfilm oder nachvertontimmer noch ein wahrer Klassiker.
The service from the provider was quick and efficient. The film was good and had the aura of mystery and horror. John Barrymore was suitably impressive as the villain and convincing as Doctor Jekyll. Good entertainment!
Simply a true classic. It is a decent print for the price and age of source as well.

Ich empfehle allen, die die schwarzweiß-Klassiker lieben, sich diesen Film zu kaufen!Die Figuren sind so bizar hergerichtet! Das finde ich echt super!
Brilliant adaption.. Barrymore apparently achieved this character mostly by facial expressions and actually dislocated his jaw in the process.. I am led to believe.. it shows the duel personality disorder lurking in all of us as far as I am concerned.. one clip where he is suppose too be ass evil as can be is when he takes a toy away from a child in the street.. huge public outcry almost.. if only we had stricter rules these days..
One of the best silent horror movies out there. Truly spooky!
