Marc Wanamaker, in “Remembering the Hal Roach Studios” for the Culver City Historical Society, calls the Hal Roach Studios one of Culver City’s lost landmarks, originally at 8822 West Washington Boulevard, at the corner of Washington and National Boulevards. In 1980 the site was marked with a historical plaque.
The society’s timeline dates the incorporation of Culver City to 20 September 1917, after an election on 8 September ordered on 13 August by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. The same 1917 note says the city leased the upper floor of a theater from Fannie A. Henderson, on the Culver Hotel site, for city offices, at $15 a month. A summer 2017 newsletter of the society names Harry H. Culver as the city founder and gives the same incorporation date, 20 September 1917.
