Mill
A mill and carpenter shop at Hal Roach Studios is not documented separately; the lot stood at 8822 Washington Boulevard in Culver City.
Marc Wanamaker, writing for the Culver City Historical Society, lists for April 1920 the administration building on Washington Boulevard, one large open stage, an enclosed stage, a set storage building, a laboratory, and department bungalows. He does not name a carpenter shop.
The same account gives the address as 8822 West Washington Boulevard, at the corner of Washington and National Boulevards.
At that time the lot also had a back lot with various types of sets that were used over and over again. The set storage building is the structure Wanamaker names in that list. He gives no size, no tools, and no inventory of sets kept there.
By May 1920 a pool water tank and some other departmental buildings were in place. He still does not call any of them a mill. In January 1922, while Ruth Roland was making serial chapter plays for Roach, a new concrete stage was being built. That note records stage construction on the lot. It does not identify a carpenter shop.
